What goes wrong

The bar swings out

It lands in front of you and you walk forward to save it, or it crashes onto your shoulders on the way down.

Where in the lift: Transition

The cue

Brush the hip on the way past — the bar stays against you until it leaves.

One cue, because one is all anyone can hold onto under a heavy snatch — and something to do rather than something to avoid, because under a heavy bar there is no time to turn a "don't" into an action.

The drills that fix it

Most useful first. The percentage is of your squat snatch, and it is a band, not a prescription.

Playing at half speed, so the turnover is visible.

Hang snatch, above the knee

85–92% of your snatch

Lower to the top of the knee and go from there. No floor to build speed with, so the hips have to actually do something.

Snatch pull

100–110% of your snatch

The pull without the catch, so you can load it past what you can currently get under.

Muscle snatch

55–65% of your snatch

No re-bend, no dip, just pull it all the way up and turn it over. Light, and it will still humble you.

No-contact snatch

60–75% of your snatch

The bar goes past the hip without ever touching it. If you were bouncing it off yourself instead of finishing, this is where you find out.

Paused squat snatch below the knee

70–85% of your snatch

The whole lift with two seconds held just under the knee. The pause sits right where the bar wants to wander.

What it usually sits behind

Whether that is yours is a question your numbers answer. Tell snatchlike your snatch and the lifts you already know — power snatch, overhead squat, back squat — and it names the one actually capping your squat snatch, then writes a session that fits the time you have. A lift you have not tested is left out rather than guessed. There is nothing to sign into.

What the camera checks for it

Bar away from the mid-foot. Allowed: up to 0.2 torso lengths in front of the mid-foot. How far in front of your mid-foot your wrists got between lift-off and the finish of the pull, in torso lengths. Side-on only — filmed head-on there is no forward to measure.

That allowance is a conventional coaching margin — the room a coach would let go without saying anything — reasoned from practice, not measured here, and wide on purpose. Plenty of people sit outside it and are fine; a reading past it is the thing worth looking at next, not a diagnosis.

Anything about the bar is the path of the wrists. The detector sees hands, not a barbell, so it is close enough to coach from and not a tracked bar path.

Film it side-on, the whole lift in frame from the setup to standing it up. When the clip cannot support the measurement, the read lists it as not checked — how far the bar swung out — the camera was not beside you, so there is no forward to measure against — and says nothing about it rather than guess.

Film one

Film one snatch and snatchlike checks this, and the 8 other faults, for you. The pose model runs in this browser tab and the video stays on your device — it is never uploaded. The read can be saved as a video, with the path of your wrists drawn on it, to post back into the thread you were asking in.
